Dr. Rachel Kovensky

Postdoctoral Therapist | Psychologist Candidate

Dr. Rachel Kovensky (she/her/hers) is a Psychologist Candidate at Reaching HOPE. She received her Doctorate in Counseling Psychology from the University of Oregon. Her research has focused on understanding the pathways to health-risking behaviors among adolescent girls with trauma histories, exploring ways in which to bolster resilience and prevent the adverse effects that trauma can have across the lifespan. Prior to pursuing her doctorate, she worked for three years as a case manager, serving individuals living with HIV. Since then, she has worked in a variety of settings, including inpatient and outpatient hospitals, private practice, college counseling centers, and community mental health facilities. She has experience providing individual, family, and group therapy using evidence-based treatments for a variety of clinical presentations, including complex trauma and serious persistent mental illness. She also has experience with formal psychological assessment, including assessing for and diagnosing learning disabilities and mental health conditions among children, youth, and adults. Further, she is passionate about community education and outreach and has been actively involved in sexual violence prevention and bystander intervention efforts. Her approach to therapy is relational, strengths-based, collaborative, culturally and contextually attuned, research-supported, and trauma-informed. She strives to balance offering clinical expertise with honoring the lived experience and wisdom of each client. She aims to equip children, adults, and families with the skills necessary to reach their goals, move towards healing and hope, and improve their relationships with themselves and others. Anticipated Psychologist License August 2022.
